Abstract
The objective of present work is to determine the characteristic of porcelain ceramic with influence of milled Alkali Resistant (AR) fiberglass to be applied in manufacturing vitrified clay pipes. For this study, raw material which is porcelain clay and AR fiberglass was converted into powder with less than 90µm and then compacted into cylindrical pallet to be used for chemical analysis by using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). The ceramic sample was produced by mixing in different weight percentage of AR glass to porcelain ceramic with 3 wt%, 6 wt%, 9 wt% and 12 wt%. After that, the sample was compacted with 3 ton of pressure load and sintered at 900°C, 1000°C, 1100°C and 1200°. The analysis of phase identification by using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and microstructure morphology was performed to the sintered sample. Chemical analysis reveals that the significant element for all raw material are SiO2, Al2O3, Na2O and K2O. Phase identification analysis shown that sample sintered at 1000°C produce quartz (SiO2), berlinite (AlPO4), albite (NaAlSi3O8) and calcium-magnesium-aluminum-silicate (CaMgAlSiO). The formation of primary mullite was observed in sample sintered at 1100°C. The image of microstructural morphology denoted that the formation of glassy phase with decreasing amount of void when sintering temperature and addition of AR glass were increased in which correspond to phase identification analysis.
