Abstract

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have become one of the most researched areas in the field of open and distance education. MOOCs allow learners from diverse backgrounds to learn on a centralized learning platform and collaborate with a massive number of students on a global scale. Research on MOOCs has focused on various disciplines ranging from computer science to social sciences, as well as engineering to medicine. However, limited research have been conducted on MOOCs for lecturer training – in other words, pedagogical strategies for higher education lecturers to create and teach using MOOCs. Moreover, there has been also a lack of research conducted in an Asia-Europe context – that specifically focuses on development of MOOCs in collaboration with cross-continental counterparts. As such, the paper discusses and proposes a pedagogical framework and several pedagogical strategies that can be utilized for lecturer training on Asia-Europe MOOCs. The implications and future directions of pedagogical strategies for Asia-Europe MOOCs are also discussed.
