Static and Ultrasonic Compaction of Powder Metallurgy

Abstract


The application of ultrasonic vibration has been extended into the powder metallurgy compaction. Special design of ultrasonic compaction tool was used. In the present syudy, stainless steel powder was compacted under static and ultrasonic compression process. The green compact then sintered using vacuum furnace. To investigate the properties of sintered specimen, series compression test and surface hardness profile dedcuted from both tests. The use of ultrasonic vibration superimposed with high compression force could be the contributing factors to produce better strength and haardness properties of sintered part compared to without ultrasonic.
