Abstract

Polyoxymethylene (POM) belongs to a group of high-performance thermoplastic polymers, which has high specific properties as compared to conventional metallic materials. Due to its own properties and potential applications in various fields of structural components, it is necessary to investigate the machining of POM. This paper present the relationships between the cutting conditions (depth of cut, feed rate and cutting speed). The researcher focuses on interaction effects between the controllable  factors and responses during machining of POM material under dry machining condition. An experiment and analysis was conducted by using  design of experiment  method (DOE). The optimum parameter was determined by measuring the surface roughness (Ra) of each workpiece and anlyse the result via an  interaction of main effect by ANOVA. The researcher were successfully record the optimum parameters which is 4000 RPM of cutting speed, 0.25 mm/tooth for feed rate, 4 mm of depth of cut. By using this parameter, the smallest value of surface roughness is measured  -0.0286µm. It has shown a better value than the sixth experiment surface roughness value 4.2820 µm.
